About the YWCA of Greater Cincinnati
YWCA USA is on a mission to eliminate racism, empower women, stand up for social justice, help families, and strengthen communities. We are one of the oldest and largest women’s organizations in the nation, serving over 2 million women, girls, and their families.
YWCA has been at the forefront of the most pressing social movements for more than 150 years — from voting rights to civil rights, from affordable housing to pay equity, from violence prevention to health care reform. YWCA Greater Cincinnati was founded in 1868 and was the fifth YWCA association in the United States. YWCA has always tackled women’s issues. At its inception, YWCA championed initiatives including a women’s employment bureau, minimum wage, protective labor laws, women’s suffrage, and job training for women. YWCA Greater Cincinnati was at the forefront of racial justice advocacy, establishing the first integrated cafeteria where interracial groups could eat in the 1950s. Since the 1970s, YWCA has provided services to victims of intimate partner violence and their children. The organization strives to build a coordinated community effort to provide the most comprehensive approach to prevention and intervention of intimate partner violence in the Greater Cincinnati area.
