Explore art, sip a cocktail and create your own masterpiece – all in one evening. Culture + Cocktails is a biannual program for young professionals that features a docent-led gallery tour, followed by a cocktail and art-making.
Participants will take a docent-led tour of The Fabric of India, then head to Art World to make their own sari-ribbon-dyed silk scarf and enjoy a cocktail. This fall’s art-making activity is led by Terry Owen of Silk Road Textiles
. Meet in the Front Lobby (first floor). **Early arrival recommended! This program begins promptly at 5:30 p.m**
About the silk scarf art-making activity:
Use silk sari ribbon to create a one-of-a-kind scarf. Silk sari pieces are collected by women from sari making factory floors in India. Silk sari ribbon is created by joining these pieces of long silk fabric strips into a continuous «ribbon,» approximately 85 feet long. Some of these ribbon bundles are left as is, displaying many colors and patterns in one piece; other bundles are dyed to produce a range of colorful options. The newly created sari ribbon becomes a usable resource in creating artworks, dyeing other fabrics, for knitting or crochet.
